Anita Dongre is one of the top most fashion designers of India who began designing 20 years ago, when even NIFT was not around. She started from SNDT, Mumbai and got up as a designer in two-and-a-half year course. At that time, shopping abroad was the best bet for Indians for being fashion conscious and stylish.
Now, she runs a corporate fashion house with five labels. She is so talented in her work that she had also dressed up Bollywood hotties like Mallika Sherawat, Raveena Tandon and Sameera Reddy. It’s all about 45-year-old Anita Dongre who is one of the few Indian designers to be retailed at over 120 outlets across the country.
The numerous brands give Dongre the freedom to design for any price range. This helps her clients to choose from a variety as per their budget. Her collections are mind blowing and so amazing that whether it’s a working woman or a celebrity who walks the red carpet or a homemaker, Dongre has outfits for all of them. She says her moto is to have something for every woman.
Anita Dongre has designed for many Bollywood films like My Brother Nikhil, Bas Ek Pal and Sorry Bhai. How was the celluloid experience? “Honestly, one doesn’t need to be a designer to style for movies; it’s a job that can be done by a stylist. I really enjoyed working on these films.” was the lines she told about.
Anita is a designer who has also designed uniforms for Dhirubhai Ambani’s pre-school and the Taj Group of Hotels’ staff. Dongre is a name to reckon with in the Indian fashion industry but the road to the top wasn’t a bed of roses. From the age of 15, Dongre knew that designing is going to be her future. She is doing well in her profession and with her hard work and skills; she is touching the hearts of the fashion conscious and stylish people all over the world.
